Urbaneel started in Cyprus, and today it takes its first step off the island: Athens is open in the app as a beta. It’s a test run — some things already work, some don’t yet, and I’d rather tell you upfront which is which.
What Works in Athens Today
- Every stop on the map — more than 8,000 of them: OASA buses and trolleybuses, plus metro and tram stations.
- Timetables at every stop. Tap a stop to see which lines call there and when the next departures are due.
- Route and trip cards with every stop along the way, and the weekly timetable for a line at your stop.
- Journey planning — from A to B across Athens by bus, trolleybus, metro or tram.
- Route pages on this site for the airport express buses and the 40 busiest lines — stops, a map and the timetable: Athens bus and trolleybus routes, plus a page just for the bus to and from Athens Airport.
What Doesn’t Work Yet
- Live bus positions. In Cyprus you can watch every bus move on the map; in Athens, for now, it’s the timetable only.
- Place search still leans towards Cyprus results.
A Note on the Timetables
The times come from OASA’s open data. OASA hasn’t published a fresh timetable since the summer, so what you see is the latest one available, and it may differ from today’s service — especially on lines that changed for the autumn. When OASA publishes a new timetable, I’ll switch to it.
How to Find Athens in the App
If you’re in Athens, Urbaneel switches to it on its own. From anywhere else, zoom the map out until the city picker appears and choose Athens. Make sure you’re on the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
Help Me Test It
This is the stage where feedback matters most. If something looks wrong — a stop in the wrong place, a missing line, a time that’s clearly off — tell me or write in the Telegram channel.
